"Center Stage"

Sold

So it was my birthday mid July ...
and my friend Kate gave me a wonderful huge Moleskine sketchbook wrapped in the above turquoise/everyone-knows-by-now-is-my-favorite-color ribbon.

This of course beckoned me to take a break from painting doll heads ...

(check out the in-progress pics of the three new heads HERE)

and refresh these doll tired eyes with my fav color

(in-progress)

This painting started with a basic block-in but, ended up with an interesting combination of thin layered paint, thick paint, scraped back areas, and a section of untouched white gesso...

I've been concentrating so much lately on thick paint applications that I had forgotten how much fun it is to push and pull the image out of the canvas.  This multi approach was perfect in capturing the upward 'stage' lighting of this attention seeking drama queen -

which I admit being guilty of from time to time :)

"Center Stage" is 5" x 7" and is framed in a warm gold floater frame.
She is $350.00 + $10 shipping in US

Thank you Kate, and of course couldn't have done it without your lovely ribbon! :) I think you're right, I haven't done a horizontal format in a while. I'm usually hung up on squares :)

Your work is always lovely. This piece with the doll heads is so interesting, would make a great piece for a competition.
