Now I see why I love your work so much. Your "gift" series, and the colors you used in it got me started following your work. It appears that you are a palette knife painter. Wonderful, wonderful work.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a post. This is such wonderful information.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I actually use mostly brushes, knife to help mix and pick up a big blob of paint, but 90% of the time, I put in on with a #2 flat 6300 series princeton brush. Thank you so much for such a wonderful compliment!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jerry! I really enjoyed keeping track of the paintings progress! I'm so glad you liked it!!
ReplyDeleteKaren I love this work - I so appreciate your sharing of your process. I am amazed at your richness of color and how you use it along with the thickness of the paint and the brushstrokes - wow!
ReplyDeletewow Karen, just found you and love your work. LOVE your puzzle like application of paint, and thank you for showing the process. You have a joyful impressionist style and happy palette. I am a big fan. Do you paint daily? How do you figure out the dreaded question "what to paint"?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Pattie and Carrie!! I appreciate your compliments and comments so much!!

ReplyDeleteOh my god, this is beautiful! I'm a beginner and teaching myself to paint so I wonder if you could post tutorials? It would be great help and I would love to learn from you! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, After you pencil on the sketch, do you have to seal it before you paint it?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the question, yes I do spray the sketch with a workable fixative sealer before painting. Thanks so much for asking!!
ReplyDeleteWow, thanks for the play-by-play showing how you accomplished this amazing portrait! I've done portraits in watercolour, but haven't tried any in oil (or any paintings in oil for that matter, just acrylics). Do you have a favourite brand of oil paint to work with?
ReplyDeleteDear Karen. I would like to know if it's possible to order a portrait. Can you write me please (niaonline@gmail.com)? Kind regards!
