I gather that this is a self portrait - You're beautiful! You look very familiar to me but, I've never been to Chicago. I really love how this turned out. You are wonderful with portraits! I love your technique, how you put a lot of paint down. I've been trying to put more paint down as I paint. I usually put skim coats or glazes down. I'm finding it takes longer to finish a painting. I hope to see more of your portraits!!
Hi Karen, Thanks for the comment! I always enjoy looking at your blog, I think you have chosen such a fun subject and it is really interesting to see how you approach them. One of my favorite things to do is wrap presents, it's like a whole other art form. I love this peice too, it's fun to see something a little different but still tied in with your theme.
This is fantastic! I agree to what the others have already said - you ARE very talented and I also would love to see more of your portraits. I love the sense of humour in this one, too! And, yes, whoever this may be, she is very beautiful!
Oh MY, I am simply overwhelmed by all of your comments. I can not express how meaningful it is to me to have all you fabulous artists pay me such incredible compliments. I am blown away! I felt like this painting took forever to complete, and I got simply sick of looking at myself in the mirror, but this feedback makes it all worth it! Thank you so much, Karen PS< Jennifer, in highschool I wanted to be a vet! :)

YEAH! One of the most interesting portraits I've seen. The way she's coming out of the deep shadows lends a real air of mystery. What a gift!

ReplyDeleteWow! Your self-portrait turned out so nice! I love the darks on the right side of your face. By the way when did you get glasses?

ReplyDeleteYou're kinda a hottie! :)
(I mean that is a self portrait, right?)
Nicely done- especially the form turning along the jaw.
Which reminds me...
ReplyDeleteHave you seen this:
American Artist's Self Portrait Competition ?
Karen- that is simply gorgeous, and I love that you have the bow. :)
ReplyDeleteStunning!! And the painting is nice too! :) Seriously, gorgeous work. You should totally enter that in the competition that Jason linked to.
ReplyDeleteThis is...great. Such a good portrait. Great handling of the 'coming out of the shadow' look. dramatic
ReplyDeleteKaren, its been a week or 2 since I've had time to visit my FAVORITE artists! Wow! This is really great. Such interesting use of value and color!
ReplyDeleteYour self-portrait is awesome and so are your other paintings.
ReplyDeleteKaren- I kept thinking you looked familiar to me as well when I realized you reminded me of our vet. :)
ReplyDeleteStill, an awesome self-portrait. D
